DA Concerned by Comments Made by the Minister of Police

The Democratic Allience has condemned Police Minister Fikile Mbalula’s comments while addressing the police’s specialised Tactical Response Team in Pretoria, where he encouraged police brutality.

The minister has been visiting the South African Police Service's Pretoria West training academy, where he re-launched the elite TRT and tracking units.

He has called on the unit to show no mercy to dangerous criminals.

The DA says the minister’s comments are uncalled for and are disgraceful considering the findings contained in Stats SA’s latest Victims of Crime Survey.

The party says the survey points to a distinct distrust of the police by victims of crime.
